At the invitation of the Institute for China Neighboring Economies, President of the International and Regional Studies Institute of Beijing Language and Culture University, Director of the Arab Research Center and the head of International and Regional Studies Base of the Ministry of Education of China, Professor Luo Lin and Professor Hou Yuxiang，Associate Dean of the Arab Institute of Beijing International Studies University , visited ICNE on December 1st, 2018. An unique academic exchange was held on the topic of The Focus and Trend of the Middle East-Arab Issues.
As an expert in the study of Middle East issues, Professor Luo Lin first gave a general description and outlook on the problems encountered by China in promoting the “The Belt and Road” initiative in the Middle East-Arab region in a vivid and humorous language. Professor Luo said, The Middle East countries are located in the core area where we promote this initiative. The mutual benefit and rational development of trade and investment relations with Arab countries in the Middle East is related to China's core interests. Strengthening cultural exchanges between two or more governments and enterprises, Understanding the cultural and legal systems of each other, and even understanding the fundamental differences in behaviors, is the important prerequisites for ensuring the security of bilateral or multilateral investments, otherwise it will cost some unpredictable and heavy price. Professor Luo also pointed out that through in-depth and extensive national and regional related research, it can provide strong theoretical support and path guidance for China to carry out international region economic cooperation. This is also the era and countries' call for China to play the role of a truly world power. Therefore, he hopes that the students should respond positively to this call and should strive to become a compound talent, and do their best to contribute to China's future development and world peace .
Professor Hou Yuxiang reminded us that the development of national and regional studies must live up to three first, that is, first-handed materials, first-line experience, and first-hand contacts. Only in this way can we provide practical and reliable theoretical support for international region economic cooperation. Professor Hou believes that the current problems in the Middle East countries are mainly concentrated in the regional hot wars in Syria and other regions, power games among states, religious issues, and culture. We should pay close attention to and deeply study the evolution of these focus issues.
Luo Lin and Hou Yuxiang, two professors, inspected the office,books and literatures of ICNE. They highly praised the work carried out by the Institute for China Neighboring Economies in the past year, and hoped that a high-level forum will be organized with the support of the Ministry of Education next year.
Researcher Dr.Tian Wenju, Teacher Tang Qiao and more than 30 persons from ICNE and some graduate students attended the academic seminar. The students also communicate with two professors about their doubts. They all said that the exchange activities benefited a lot.
