A Special Lecture by Professor Werner Rothengatter of Germany

Is it possible for The Belt and Roadinitiative of China to link up effectively with EU infrastructure?Inresponse,German Karlsruhe Institute of Technology Professor Werner Rothengatter shared his views with ICNE students and faculty at Today's lecture on "the impact of EU infrastructure planning". After a brief introduction of the history of Pan-European transport networking, Professor Rothengatter expounded emphatically the main objectives, operation mechanism and problems of the European Core Network. He said that The Belt and Roadinitiative, which aims to connect Europe, Asia and Africa, is building Eurasian economic ties. This initiative just likethe successful operation of Piraeusport in Greece is undoubtedly beneficial to Europe's economic development. Professor Rothengatter also reminded that while the Pan-European transport network has achieved  good results, more  efforts in coordination and communication must be made by European countries In order to achievethe collaborative goals in EU transport standards, technology ,management and so on.

During the discussion session, participants had a heat discussion about difficulties in the construction of the Pan-European infrastructure network, the competition and cooperation relationship between the related projects of  The Belt and Road initiative and the Pan-European transport network corridor and so on.

Professor Werner Rothengatter was the head of the Economics Department and the dean of the Economic Policy Research Institute at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany before his retirement. When he was thepresident of the World Conference on Transport Research (WCTR) , He actively created conditions to promote China’s infrastructure planning.His trip through Shanghai brought an academic feast for ICNE students and faculty. Five researchers and more than 20 graduate students attended this lecture on the second floor of ICNE.
