Senior Expert Round-table Conference on "Economic Security Issues around China" Held in Shanghai

On November 6, a round table conference of senior experts on economic security issues around China was successfully held in the North Campus of military industry road of Shanghai University of Science and Technology. The conference is a closed door conference jointly sponsored by the Secretariat of International and Regional Studies Base of the Ministry of Education of China and Institute for China Neighboring Economies of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, aiming to further strengthen the research on relevant international and regional issues. The conference was hosted by Wei Jingfu, director of Institute for China Neighboring Economies. Wen Bing,  deputy secretary general of the Secretariat of  International and Regional Studies Base of the Ministry of Education of China and senior researcher of Institute of Area Studies of Beijing Language and Culture University, delivered a speech on strengthening international and regional studies. Professor Yan Jianfeng, Institute of Finance of Shanghai University of Finance and economics, made a summary of the conference.

During the one day meeting, a dozen experts and scholars from countries and regions in Beijing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Changchun and Shanghai have had a heated discussion revolving around three themes: Hot spots and performance of economic security in China's surrounding areas, A multilateral economic and trade relationship based on "one belt and one road" and the countermeasures to ensure economic security around China.. Professor Zhou Yiping, dean of International Silk Road College of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, elaborated on the research ideas of the great security around China and China's possible contribution to the world in terms of soft power. Professor Ge Jianping of China University of Geosciences made an in-depth analysis of China's major strategic mineral security situation from the perspective of peripheral relations. Professor Huang Dong of Huazhong University of science and technology emphasizes to build an international trade channel connecting Southeast Asia based on Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Professor Qin Lifang of Sun Yat-sen University analyzed in detail the changes of Vietnam's foreign investment under the background of Sino US trade war. Professor Lu Wenjun, executive director of Shanghai Sino German industry 4.0 Research Institute, analyzed the industrial cooperation and future risks between China and Japan. Zhang Xinxing, editor of Northeast Asia economic research, analyzed the economic situation of Northeast Asia related countries. Scholars participating in the conference agreed that strengthening national economic research, deepening economic cooperation with surrounding areas must be conducive to the construction of China's surrounding economic security environment, and stressed that regional powers must comprehensively consider economic, cultural, political cooperation and other aspects, and strive to promote common development of all countries while seeking national development.

Professor Zhang Yongqing and other researchers from Institute for China Neighboring Economies of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology participated in relevant discussions.
