In early autumn at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), the osmanthus flowers are in full bloom, and the academic atmosphere on campus is equally strong. On the morning of October 12, invited by Associate Professor Qin Bingtao, Director of the the Institute for China Neighboring Economies (ICNE), Yu Guoyong, General Manager of Shanghai Huixiang International Trade Co., Ltd., gave a themed report titled International Business Practice under the Background of Expanding External Circulation in the Conference Room of the Economics and Management Building. Teachers and students of ICNE attended the report, which was hosted by Qin Bingtao.

Qin Bingtao Hosting the Lecture

Combining his years of work experience, Yu Guoyong elaborated on how to remain invincible against the backdrop of the current expansion of external circulation from four aspects.First, international business talents should have patience and perseverance. Second, they should have the ability to withstand setbacks and good communication skills, which are specifically reflected in maintaining an optimistic mindset and an indomitable attitude even after being rejected by customers. Third, they should have the ability to solve problems independently, such as the ability to solve product quality problems, handle emergencies during the shipping process, resolve supply and demand contradictions, and coordinate the connection of various links in the shipping process. At the same time, they also need professional business knowledge, such as the foreign trade operation process, quotation, and Email writing for the products they sell, as well as the overall arrangement of shipping time.

In addition, he encouraged the students to master language and tool-based skills. A salesperson who does not have the ability to speak English is unqualified. Learning to use instant communication software such as WeChat and Whatsapp, and being familiar with the communication software used by target customers are also essential skills. As members of an enterprise, international business talents need to be familiar with the industry characteristics, business processes, product characteristics of the enterprise, as well as the selection of target markets.

Yu Guoyong Delivering the Report

Yu Guoyong emphasized the explanation of the most crucial international trade practices and operation processes. He pointed out that the most complex and important part in foreign trade practice is marketing and customer acquisition, and it is necessary to pay more attention to industry exhibitions, magazine advertisements, official corporate websites, and customer visits in daily work.

He simulated the operation process for the students to teach them how to conduct practical operations. He emphasized, Do not click on unknown links randomly, do not be greedy for overly large orders, and ignore large-value investments!

He stated that the risk of fraud from the other party can be judged through a series of channels, such as checking the customer's website, entrusting professional credit investigation institutions, and conducting payment investigations through SINOSURE (China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation). The students nodded their heads and took notes carefully.

Lecture Scene

During the Q&A session, the students actively raised questions, and Yu Guoyong answered them one by one with vivid examples, profound knowledge and humorous language.

As an alumnus of the International Trade major of USST, he sent a message to the younger students to maintain their learning ability and enhance their executive ability, and to continuously break through themselves and realize their dreams on the road of career development.

The students all said that they had benefited a lot. Guided by the alumnus, they will explore the professional field, plan for the future and strive to become talents with the power of management and scientific methods.
